Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Diary of Philip Henslowe, From 1591 to 1609

In the first instance, it seems desirable to say some thing Of the origin and history of a volume, which with the greatest liberality was placed, and has been allowed to remain, in our hands for an almost indefinite period. We can hardly rate too highly the obliga tions of the Shakespeare Society, to the Master, Warden, and Fellows of Dulwich College, in this respect, more especially to the Rev. Mr. Howes, who has charge Of the books of the Institution.
