Dates parfois erronees cita tions souvent incompletes ou inexactes nous avons tout controle, tout soumis a une revision attentive, et d'autant plus necessaire, que la deuxoeme et derniere edition du tome I de Marquardt (leipzig, dont nous nous sommes servis, presente, a cet egard, de sur prenantes lacunes. Nous avons du, notamment, retablir a maintes reprises les titres ou tomaisons des ouvrages, oublies par l'au teur, indiquer leurs editions et traductions posterieures a 1881, ve rifier, avec un soin tout particulier, les sources juridiques, litte raires et epigraphiques, que Marquardt a mises a profit, en nous aidant des travaux les plus autorises.
