Diese Classification jedoch (wobei wir lieber die erste Classe als die ihrem Werthe nach niedrigste an die letzte Stelle gesetzt h�tten) wird wiederum h�chst unsicher durch die Bemerkung, dass einmal s�mmtliche Handschriften den gr�ssten Theil der tiefer liegenden und haupts�chlichen Verderbnisse namentlich die zahlreichen L�cken, mit einander gemein haben dann aber auch, dass die einzelnen Classen h�ufig in einander ?ieasen. Nimmt man dazu noch den Umstand, dass nicht leicht eine Lesart sich i� einer Handschrift findet, welche nicht auch wenigstens in einer der iibrigen stmde, so wird man das Urthcil der Herausgg. Wohl f�r hinreichend begrundet halten mussen dass die s�mmt lichen bisher verglichenen Handschriften des Pausanias aus einer und derselben Quelle ge?ossen sind. Sehr annehmlich scheint' die Vermuthung, dass das Msept., welchem die iibrigen ihren Ursprung verdanken, am Bande mit Varianten versehen gewe sen sei (�hnlich dem codex Biecardianua an welchem p. XXXIV sq. Der ganze Prozess recht 'anschaulich nachgewiesen wird) und nun, w�hrend der eine Abschreiber sich damit begniigte, den blossen d104 zu copiren, ein anderer die s�mmtlichen oder ein zelne Varianten in den d104 setzte ein dritter die Varianten mit der im d104e gefundenen Lesart verschmolz u. S. F. Doch dem sei wie ihm wolle, zu der Gewissheit wenigstens sind wir gelangt, dass aus den Handschriften, wenn deren n�mlich, wozu aber nicht viel Hoffnung vorhanden ist, nicht noch andere gefunden werden sollten, fiir die Herstellung des d104es des P. Nicht viel zu gewinnen ist. Nichtsdestoweniger verdienen die Heraubgg. Doch den aufrichtigsten Dank, dass sie das Wenige, welches daraus gewonnen werden kann muhsam gesammelt und zu einer neuen kritischen Grundlage verarbeifet haben.
