Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Representative Authors of Maryland: From the Earliest Time to the Present Day With Biographical Notes and Comments Upon Their Work
This volume was prepared as the result of a move ment begun on Maryland Day, March 25, 1909. The State Board of Education had assigned as a special topic for the day, Maryland's Contribution to American Literature. To consider this subject, a meeting was held at the Johns Hopkins University, at which a committee was appointed to formulate plans 'for promoting a more general knowledge and appreciation of Maryland history and literature. It was here that the author of this volume conceived the idea of preparing a critical and descriptive account of the representative literary workers of the State of Maryland from its settlement to the present time.
