Je n'ai point encore exploré pour y rechercher les esquisses l'incomparable fonds de manuscrits à pein tures de notre Bibliothèque nationale; mais il n'est pas douteux que la moisson y sera abondante. On en peut dire autant de la collection du British Museum. Parmi les manuscrits qui, dans ce dernier dépôt, sont encore ornés de leurs esquisses, Jen signalerai deux seule ment le manuscrit Harley 616, et le Royal 18 D v.... Ce sont deux volumes d'origine française et probable ment parisienne, l'un du xiiie siècle, l'autre du XIV°.
