Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Cotton Situation: January 1964
Important changes have occurred in the components of U. S. Cotton production since World War II. Dur ing the 1947-63 period, production has been maintained due to a sharp upward trend in yield per harvested acre-despite a sharp downward trend in harvested acreage.
The record average yield of 524 pounds per harvested acre for the 1963 crop is almost double the average yield of 267 pounds per acre achieved in 1947. This yield increase more than offset a33-per cent decline in harvested acreage, ' and production rose by 31 percent from 1947 to 1963.
