Excerpt from Letters From George Lord Carew to Sir Thomas Roe, Ambassador to the Court of the Great Mogul, 1615-1617
In 1641 he was sent ambassador to the emperor and the princes of Germany to be present at the Diet of Ratisbon, and there to mediate on behalf of the Prince Elector Palatine. The Emperor was so pleased with his conduct and his great abilities that he several times said in public I have met with many gallant persons of many nations, but I scarce ever met with an ambas sador till now. On his return from Germany he was made Chancellor of the Garter and a Privy Councillor, but he lived not long to enjoy. These honours. He. Died 6th November, 1644.
