Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Catalogue of Books for 1837, Vol. 1: Containing Theology and Ecclesiastical History, Metaphysics, Moral Philosophy and Education
Tn: present Catalogue, without any pretensionsqto strict classifica tion, will be found to contain, under the respective heads into which it is divided, works on those subjects which the Proprietor, in his business of bookselling, has found to be most the objects of inquiry at the present any; Some of the articles, owing to want of time for ascer taining the subject matter with more precision, are not, perhaps, under their proper heads; nevertheless it may be found useful to those who are seeking for books ou' a puffimtlkr subject, and whose time is too much occupied otherwise to admit of their reading through the pages of a Catalogue in search of them. It is hoped, too, that this attempt at classification, limited as it is, will be well received, even by those who are in the habit of Catalogue perusing, since the breaks-'ali'drd relief to the reader, by claiming stricter attention to the subject, or relaxing iti as the particular division is more or less to his taste.
The great cost of printing has necessarily led to an abridgment of the titles, and this, in many cases, to the destruction of the grammatical construction but is is hoped, notwithstanding, that they will be su?i ciently intelligible middleman in all cases, the subject matter of the book.
