De plus, je ne veux pas m'absenter trop loin de mon pauvre domestique qui reste seul à Croisset, à se débattre au milieu des Prussiens. En quel état retrouverai - je mon pauvre cabinet, mes livres, mes notes, mes manuscrits? Je n'ai pu mettre à l'abri que mes papiers relatifs à Saint Antoine. Émile a pourtant la clef de mon cabinet, mais ils la demandent et y entrent souvent pour prendre des livres qui traînent dans leurs chambres.
