White man dancing is set in Zimbabwe in 2005 during a time of political and financial turmoil where there are economic meltdowns, general elections and government crackdowns and initiatives. The story is told through the eyes of Jack Bentley who comes from UK with his best friend Charlie to take a career break or sabbatical to do voluntary work in Zimbabwe with the NGO World Vision. Jack through being more and more involved in development work gets drawn into the political, economic and social conflict in Zimbabwe, he finds himself more determined to make a difference and finds himself taking part and taking sides in the conflicts that surrounds him. The book is love a story about Jack falling in love, firstly falling in love with Africa, but also falling in love with a girl or even girls, falling in love with God but most importantly falling in love with himself.
