This novel written in 1830, tells the story of Mina Wanghen, the daughter of a wealthy Prussian banker who spreads the rumour that the family is bankrupt when her father dies and an unending line of suitors are queuing at the door. Later, she persuades her mother to flee from Prussia to Paris with her.;Stendhal wrote biographies of Haydn, Rossini and others as well as his novels, the best known of which are "The Red and The Black" (Le Rouge et Le Noir 1831) and "La Chartreuse de Parme" (1839).
