The tributes, some witty, some sad, all heartfelt, are tinged with Charleson's irresistable charm.;Charleson was born in 1949 in Edinburgh, son of a printer. He grew up in a working-class area of the city and won a scholarship to Edinburgh University to study architecture. Soon realizing that his future lay in the theatre, he went on to gain a place at LAMDA and, from there, was quickly snapped up by the Young Vic Company.
