Publisher's Synopsis
This book considers VSAM (Virtual Storage Access Method), which is a part of the MVS operating system that manages data files stored on disk, and discusses how to use these files efficiently. The author divides this comprehensive treatment of VSAM into 3 sections. The first four chapters explain VSAM terms and concepts in detail. The second section then explains how to use AMS, the main VSAM utility program. In addition to showing how to use AMS commands, this section contains separate chapters on performance, recovery and security considerations. The final section shows how to code COBOL, CICS and assembler programs that use VSAM files.
