Publisher's Synopsis
This anthology, now in its third edition, brings together some of the most recent articles published on the study of men in society. Edited by two of the field's best-known scholars, the book is organized around the themes and concepts that define masculinity. Its social constructionist perspective examines the ways in which men actively construct their identities.;The essays in Part One pose questions that unravel the "masculine mystique" and explore various dimensions of men's position in society and their relationships with women and with other men. Subsequent chapters examine the changing roles of men throughout their lives. The readings focus on central moments of men's lives - sports, work, marriage, and fatherhood - as well as emotional and sexual relationships with women and with other men.
