As well as his many books, letters and poems, C.S. Lewis also wrote a great number of essays and shorter pieces on various subjects. He wrote extensively on Christian theology and the defence of faith, but also on various ethical issues and on the nature of literature and story-telling.

This first volume (of two) collects together all Lewis's essays on general subjects. Grouped together by topic, there are over 60 essays covering English and Literature, The Art of Writing and the Gift of Writers, Education and History, Philosophical Thoughts, Some Everyday Thoughts, and all his fictional Short Stories.
