The songs were mostly composed in the mid-1800s. They are arranged as duets for soprano and tenor recorder. The songs are arranged in common time signatures, common key signatures (mostly F and G major), and accessible ranges with easy rhythms (mostly eighth, quarter and half notes). This is a valuable collection of familiar melodies, appropriate for varied performances in school, church, civic, and more by performers of all ages and abilities. The duets could also be performed by or with other C instruments in treble clef, such as flute, oboe, and violin.
