Notes: Inscribed by the author on the flyleaf: 'To the Rt Hon and Mrs L.S. Amery, With respects, Bertram Thomas, May 1937'. The recipient was the Conservative M.P., previously Colonial Secretary and later Secretary of State for India and Burma in Churchill's war ministry. Thomas's earlier work, 'Arabia Felix', featured a foreword by T.E. Lawrence, who receives a handful of mentions in the text here in connection with the Arab Revolt.
