Scarce early work by the American poet and clergyman, who would later – whilst Chaplain of Worcester College, Oxford – assist Eliot with the momentous decision of his conversion, baptising him in the church at Finstock. Stead was, at the time of publication, attending Queen's College – during which time he befriended Yeats and participated, like Eliot, Huxley, et al., in literary gatherings at the nearby Garsington Manor of Lady Morrell.
