Publication Details: Lovat Dickson, 1937

Notes: A novel of the Spanish Civil War, the 'first major novel' based on the conflict the blurb considers. The author was an American who had married into European nobility, caught up in the 'guerra civil' when visiting her daughter in Granada and earlier publishing a memoir of it ('Death in the Morning'). In contradistinction to the majority of anglophone literature of the conflict, her allegiances are with the Nationalists.
