Temple Thurston (E.)

Poems, 1918-1923.

Description: FIRST EDITION, pp. 68, crown 8vo, original blue cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt to upper board and backstrip, bottom corners knocked, top edge slightly dusty, others untrimmed, marbled endpapers, very good

Publication Details: London and New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1923

Notes: Inscribed by the author on the initial blank, 'To E. Marsh, gratefully for criticism, E. Temple Thurston. 18.1.24'. The recipient is likely to have been the literary editor and civil servant (principally as secretary to Churchill), Eddie Marsh. The themes of the verse within are various, with the English countryside the most persistent - there is a poem in tribute to Walter de la Mare and the solitary war poem, 'War Memorial', is perhaps its most powerful.
