Description: FIRST EDITION, Barnett Freedman vignette to title-page, a few pencil notes at beginning of final story (probably those of Ronald Fuller, see below), pp. 326, crown 8vo, original blue cloth, backstrip lettered in gilt with vignette stamped in white, a small amount of soiling, edges rubbed, one corner knocked, bookplate of Ronald Fuller (designed by Rex Whistler) to front pastedown and gift inscription to same on flyleaf (see below), the flyleaf with a little abrasion to top corner, good

Notes: With a TLs from the author tipped to the flyleaf, dated June 1943, to a Mrs Mander, considering it good news that she and Ronald Fuller might be coming to Twickenham soon, outlining his availability, and expressing his delight at the idea of making a return visit to Oxford. The gift inscription at head of same is to 'Ronald, with love from Vivien' – i.e., to Fuller, probably from Howard Vivien Mander, the husband of the Mrs Mander addressed by de la Mare.
