Notes: The author's own copy of her delightful, chatty cookbook, with her customary method of preserving the dustjacket's front panel on the flyleaf. Laid in are five recipes, one typed the others manuscript - only one of which, for Red Tomato Puree, in a hand resembling the author's (and with her note, 'Very useful for soups, sauces etc.'). A good example of a memoir in food, with chapters on Yorkshire ('the land of good food'), Italy, and Jewish dishes all conveying aspects of her lifestory, as indeed do headings like 'Let's be really vulgar', drawn from popular entertainment on the stage.
