Notes: An excellent anthropological association copy, with the ownership inscription of Max Gluckman to the flyleaf dated November 1934 – he was newly arrived from South Africa on a Rhodes scholarship at Exeter College, Oxford. Mead's eminence in the field was quickly established, and this is one of her most enduring ethnographies. Her work continued to be influential, including on the Manchester School founded by Gluckman.
