Finnegans Wake.

Joyce (James)

Finnegans Wake.

Description: FIRST EDITION, final text-page browned as usual, pp. [viii], 628, 8vo, original brick-red cloth, backstrip lettered and with rules in gilt, top edge yellow, others untrimmed with a few spots, slightly heavier spotting to borders of endpapers, the fragile dustjacket in excellent shape with jut some shallow chipping and a few tiny nicks to extremities, very good

Publication Details: Faber and Faber, 1939

Notes: Laid in is a clipping of the review in The Observer by Oliver St John Gogarty (the basis, of course, for Buck Mulligan), which ends with the remark 'This is the most colossal leg-pull in literature since McPherson's Ossian. Mr. Joyce has had his revenge'. A very handsome copy of this piece of 'literary Bolshevism'.
