Notes: This text was first published in Bergamo in 1587 in 4to, and gave rise to 'a fierce dispute over how to read Horace's Ars poetica' (for an account and references see Christopher Carlsmith, A Renaissance Education: Schooling in Bergamo and the Venetian Republic, 1500-1650, Toronto, 2010, p. 339). Cologno was a native of Bergamo, and was professor of philosophy at Padua (where Harvey matriculated in early 1600). He died in 1602.
