Notes: Barker was 'preacher of Gods word, at Stowre Paine, in Dorsetshire'. For a discussion of this book see Jonathan Willis, Moral Arithmetic, in Sin and Salvation in Reformation England, Ashgate, 2015. Willis notes that for Barker 'Adultery [is] the headline offence', and it is remarkable how thorough are the disquisitions on all things marital. Willis also remarks on the vigour of Barker's prose. A poorly printed book, and a scarce one, with ESTC listing 6 copies in the British Isles, and 4 in the US (Folger, Pittsburg, Illinois, Minnesota)....more
