Notes: 'Educated at Winchester School on the foundation, [Chandler] entered Queen's College, Oxford, on 9 May 1755, having failed to gain a place at New College. He obtained a demyship at Magdalen College on 24 July 1757 and became a probationer fellow in 1770. Shortly after taking his BA in 1759 he published Elegiaca Graeca, an annotated collection of fragments by Tyrtaeus, Simonides, Theognis, Alcaeus, Sappho, and others' (ODNB).
