Notes: With a 2pp. ALs from the author, to a Mr Falkner, explaining that the poem 'Nepenthe' was written early in 1883 'when I was recovering from a long bout of typhoid fever'; he agrees that the corrspondent's suggestion of 'blameless' is perhaps better than his choice of 'painless' within said poem; Falkner is thanked 'for the promised book', and in return receives the present volume - '"Unseen" is connected [to] an experience not unlike the very pleasing one which you communicate'.
