Notes: First American edition, the seventh overall, of this book of emblems. First published in 1772, regular editions appeared up until 1819, 2 in that year, Boston, and Woodstock, Mass. This was the most successful of Wynne's variegated productions. It was as by the author of Choice Emblems that Tales for Youth appeared in 1794, supposedly with cuts by Bewick - but the book is excluded from Tattersfield. There would be no mistaking the woodcuts in the present edition as Bewick's, they being somewhat crude.
