De lingua latina libri tres:

Varro (M. Terentius)

De lingua latina libri tres:

totidemque de analogia cum Michaëlis Bentini castigationibus. Marci Portii Catonis Originum liber I ...

Description: woodcut printer's device on title, another version on the verso of the last leaf, fine series of woodcut initials, title ruled in red (see below), some damp-staining emanating from the inner margins, and in the corners, pp. 187, [21], small 8vo, ?17th-century ?Dutch embroidered silk, overlapping fore-edges, faded, traces only of the embroidery, spine mostly defective, corners slightly worn.

Publication Details: Lyons: Sebastian Gyphius, 1535

Notes: A faded beauty. At the head of the title-page is an inscription, which we interpret as a purchase note dated from The Hague in 1653, and the red ruling possibly coincides with this (rather than being contemporary, which it could be). If this is correct, it would substantiate a 17th-century Dutch ascription. A scarce Varro: Johns Hopkins only beyond Europe in USTC. Bentinus's commentary was first published at Basle in 1526.

Bibliography: (USTC 146868; not in Adams)
