Notes: Printed for private circulation in an edition of 100 copies by Brook Taylor's grandson, Sir William Young (d. 1815); this is a family copy, having belonged to Brook Taylor's great-grandson, and to several of his other descendants. 'This [i.e., Contemplatio philosophica] was printed at London in 1793 for private circulation and is now extremely rare' (W. W. Rouse Ball, A Short Account of the History of Mathematics (3rd ed., 1919), p. 380).
