Description: FIRST EDITION, a trifle browned in places, burn hole in A7 with the loss of a couple of letters on either side (sense recoverable), pp. [xxx], 556, [3, Index], small 8vo, contemporary mottled calf, double blind fillet borders on sides, spine with blind ruled bands on either side o raised bands, initials HVW blocked (upside down) on covers, marbled edges, minor wear to extremities, crack to either end of lower joint, very good

Notes: Samuel Stodden, a Presbyterian, was ejected from Buckland Parish, Somerset. He begins in high style: 'Such is the blockish stupidity and blind prejudice that hath rooted itself in the very heart of a Back-sliding generation ...' This is a rare book, ESTC locating copies in the Congregational Library, Dr. William's Library (possibly the same copy), Bodley, American Antiquarian Society, Harvard, and Yale. The volume contains marks of ownership at both ends. At the front is the inscription 'Humphrey Wyndam his book Annmo Dom 1683.
