Notes: A fascinating account of the author's travels into remote regions (what the dustjacket blurb forthrightly puts as 'an abysmally ignorant world of savages and decivilised half-breeds') in pursuit of experiences at odds with a childhood that she refers to in her autobiographical summary as 'severely repressed'. Translated from the third German edition, the author would soon after abandon the language (she was fluent in around ten others) in protest at the rise of Nazism.
