Notes: View of a scheme to rebuild Balliol College; this was started in 1738, but was not continued after 1743. The lower half of the image includes eighteen identifiable figures associated with the college, including Bishop John Robinson. The engraver and antiquary George Vertue (1684-1756) succeeded Michael Burghers as engraver to Oxford University in 1727, a post which included the responsibility of engraving almanacks such as this.
