Notes: Contains fables, some in verse, and other literary pieces, including some quite long stories, as well as copies of letters between Penelope and her sister Mariana, and a friend Maria del Carmen Sardi de Valasco. All in Spanish, apart from translations into English provided for some proverbs (equivalencies rather than literal translations). The Biddulphs were a Herefordshire family, friends with the Barretts of Hope End, near Ledbury - where Elizabeth Barrett, later Browning, spent most of her childhood: at least one letter from EBB to Penelope Barrett exists (in the Armstrong Browning Library)...more
