The Elements of Astronomy,

Reynolds (George)

The Elements of Astronomy,

according to the Newtonian Principles: illustrated by several new and interesting Diagrams, and adapted as far as the science will admit, to the plainest capacities, intended solely for the Instruction of Young Ladies and Gentlemen

Description: FIRST (?ONLY) EDITION, with 4 folding engraved plates, bound without the half-title, pp. [iii-xxiv], 143, [1], 12mo contemporary red morocco, panelled in gilt and blind, spine gilt and lettered in gilt direct, a little insect damage to the top of the spine and descending some way down the lower joint, with the loss of the initial letters of the lettering, still a good copy

Publication Details: Printed by E. Thomas, for Sherwood, Neeley, & Jones, [and others]. 1809

Notes: The binding probably indicates that this is a presentation copy (it was issued in boards) but there is no sign of provenance. The work is dedicated to Thomas Boole, who drew the diagrams. The book was favourably reviewed in various periodicals, as a quick Google shows. COPAC locates only 2 copies, BL and Cambridge; WorldCat adds Adler Planetarium, Princeton, and the University of Seville (the last being in worn Spanish boards).
