Description: pp. [viii], 184, 12mo, contemporary tree calf, spine nicely gilt, red lettering piece, upper joint cracked but cords holding, good, illegible ownership inscription inside front cover dated from Charterhouse, book label opposite of Mrs. Anketell of Redcliffe Gardens, South Kensington (a schoolmistress?)

Notes: Both this and the first edition of the year before are rare books. ESTC records 3 copies of the present edition (BL, Bodley, Leeds), and BL, Bodley and Yale of the first. Birch, (1757–1841), was, as the ODNB has it, 'politician, playwright, and pastrycook.' He was a pastrycook first, inheriting the family business. He rose through the London political ranks, becoming mayor in 1814.
