Notes: An attractive little provincial introduction, quite scarce. The unknown author introduces various quotations from the poets, Milton, Thomson, and one (the final one) by Addison, and justifies their inclusion by reference to the same practice by Bonnycastle and Aikin. As so often with mottled calf, the action of the acid has had unfortunate effects. Here there are islands of a good smooth calf surface, while the rest now resembles reversed calf: but the binding is structurally sound, and the marbled endpapers (of Bath manufacture) are particularly attractive.
