Description: decorated initials and ornaments. Title and last verso a bit soiled, first and last couple of leaves, and a handful of others, a little dusty at margins, occasional light age yellowing, long tear (flaw) towards lower outer corner of H1 (touching couple of letters), last leaf adhering to fep at blank gutter, edges trimmed short (just touching ornaments), 2 parts in 1, half-title to second, continuous pagination, ff. 79, [1], last 3pp. with bookseller's advertisement, small 8vo, late 18thC English sprinkled calf, rubbed, upper corners and head and foot of spine worn, hinges weakening but firm, small ink doodle to title.

Notes: A remarkably well-preserved copy of the rare, pocket-size, second edition of this popular work on medicine, astrology and pharmacology. Antoine Mizauld (1510-78) was professor of medicine at Paris, a skilled astrologer, and the author of works on ephemerides, diagnostics, herbal remedies and 'secrets'. Mizauld recounts how the first edition – published by Kerver in the same year (probably under a slightly different title, as per bookseller's advertisement at rear) – was 'so avidly coveted, sold and bought' that a second was immediately requested, with minor revisions.
