Notes: The first 'pocket' version of Lambin's Lucretius. Lambin's important edition, textually one of the best ever produced and accompanied by a copious and significant commentary, was published over the turn of the year from 1563 to 1564. It 'stimulated a demand for a pocket edition giving the scholar's text without the notes. This demand having come from "men who were not only of high rank and famous but also learned" (amplissimi et ornatissimi iidemque doctissimi viri), Lambin made haste to satisfy it and carefully reconsidered the text in the light of suggestions he had received from other schol...more
