Notes: An elegant printing of what Voltaire called a masterpiece of historical writing, first published in 1674. We call the binding tree-style, because although the manner of treating the calf is what normally gives rise to a tree, here the effect is more like a bloom of jellyfish, proceeding horizontally. A scarce edition, ESTC recording 2 copies in the BL, 1 at the Rylands, Columbia and Texas only.
