The English Review concluded that 'the piety and good intentions of the author are abundantly conspicuous', but the Critical Review found it lacking in 'critical accuracy'; one of Yonge's more outlandish claims is that after the Tower of Babel God divided the earth, and 'the inhabitants the one from the other. This clears up the difficulty of the first peopling of America, that part of land that was torn off from the main land' (p. 17). HIDE
