Why should I rent a book?

You can save up to 66% of the cost of studying by renting your textbooks from Blackwell's.

How can I rent a book?

Books can be rented using the Online system in one of two ways:
1. For collection from a shop stocking the rental title
2. To be sent out to the customer by Royal Mail.

How can I rent a book using the online system?

Locate your book from our textbook rental list or search by ISBN
Choose the length of time that you wish to rent your textbook - either 30, 60 or 90 days
Pay using a credit or debit card
Your book can be posted to you or collected from the bookshop
You will be emailed two reminders before your book is due for return
Extend your textbook rental period online if required
When you have finished using the book post to our returns depot or drop off at any Blackwell's Bookshop

Can I rent any book?

No, text book rental only applies to certain titles. Locate your book from our textbook rental list or search by ISBN.

How can I tell if a book is available to rent?

Locate your book from our textbook rental list or search by ISBN.
If the book is available to rent, a 'Rent Now' option appears on the Buying Options page when viewing the book on the website.

How can I get I get a list of titles available to rent?

Locate your book from our textbook rental list.

How do I renew a title?

Click on the following link to log into your account and renew your book:

Will I be sent a reminder?

Yes, a reminder will be sent two weeks before the due date, then another one week from the due date.

What happens if I am late returning a book or do not return it?

If the book arrives back after the due date or is not returned, the full cost of the book will be charged to your credit card.

Can I return the book in any condition?

No, the book must be returned back to us in a re-saleable condition. If the book does not arrive in good condition then the full cost of the book will be charged to your credit card.

Where should the books be returned to?

The book can be returned to the address on the return label on the despatch note, or to any of our shops.
N.B. If posting the book back, please ensure the book arrives back at the return address by the renewal date, otherwise you will be fined.

Can I return a rental book to any Blackwell's shop?

Yes, please take it to Customer Services at any Blackwell's Bookshop who will action your return immediately.

If posting the book, how long should I allow for it to arrive back?

If posting the book back, please ensure the book arrives back at the return address by the renewal date, otherwise you will be fined. Typically, you should allow 1-2 business days for first class mail, or 2-4 business days for 2nd class. Please note that business days do not include weekends.

Should I inform Customer Services if I am posting a book back?

We suggest that you advise Online Customer Services on 01865-333536 or by email to [email protected] to notify us that your book is being returned and we can update your customer notes with the intended return date.
N.B. you must still ensure the book arrives back at the return address by the renewal date - if the book is posted back later and arrives after the due date then the full cost of the book will be charged to your credit card.

Can I use a Gift Card to rent a book?

No, it is not possible to rent a book using a Blackwell's Gift Card or a National Book Token.

Can I collect a rental book from my local shop?

Books can be collected from the shop of your choice by selecting the option to 'Collect in Store' though please note that this only applies if your local shop stock the rental title required.



Textbook Rental Terms & Conditions

The following terms & conditions apply to books ordered via the Text Book Rental (TBR) system:



Contract

When you place an order to purchase a product from Blackwell's Online for a Text Book Rental title, we will send you an email confirming receipt of your order and containing the details of your order and the Renewal Date for your rental period. Your order represents an offer to us to rent a product which is accepted by us when we send e-mail confirmation to you that we've despatched that product to you (the "Despatch Confirmation E-mail"). That acceptance will be complete at the time we send the Despatch Confirmation Email to you. Any products on the same order which we have not confirmed in a Despatch Confirmation Email to have been despatched do not form part of that contract.

Books available to rent

If the book is available to rent, a 'Rent Now' option appears on the Buying Options page when viewing the book on the website, or it can be found on the textbook rental list.

Books can be rented using the Online system in one of two ways:
1. For collection from a shop stocking the rental title
2. To be sent out to the customer by Royal Mail.

If the option to collect the book from a shop is selected, the shop will advise you by email once the book is ready for collection. Customers should take their confirmation email to the shop when collecting their book.

Purchase

Credit or Debit Cards must be used to rent books. It is not possible to rent a book using a Blackwell's Gift Card.

Renewal reminders

Renewal Reminders will be sent two weeks before the due date, then another one week from the due date. If the book arrives back after the due date, the full cost of the book will be charged to your credit card.

Fines

If the book arrives back after the due date, or in an unacceptable condition, the full cost of the book will be charged to your credit card.

Returns

The book can be returned to the address on the return label on the despatch note, or to any of our Blackwell's bookshops.

Books must be returned back to us in a re-saleable condition.

If the book does not arrive in good condition then the full cost of the book will be charged to your credit card.

Postal returns

If posting the book back, please ensure the book arrives back at the return address by the Renewal date, otherwise you will be fined.

Postal returns should be made using the Return Label on the despatch note to:

Responsibility of the customer

It is the responsibility of the customer to return the book to us before the Renewal Date and in a re-saleable condition. If the book does not arrive in good condition or arrives late then the full cost of the book will be charged to your credit card.
