Publisher's Synopsis

In 1946, a thirteen-year-old African America high school boy is sexually molested by a stranger he meets on the way home from school. For years he struggles with his traumatic experience as well as with racial segregation and prejudice. Coincidentally, eight years later, he meets his molester face to face on a public street and begins at last to regain his sense of pride and power. In the intervening years, he suffers through many disappointing failures. Throughout his odyssey, historical events concerning the Korean War, insensitive and exploitative racial discrimination, African excursions, and periods of elation fill his journey. The events in Young Man in a Hurry cover sixty-five years of personal and historical experience. This is the author's story, his memoir.
