Publisher's Synopsis

Tourism represents one of today's major growth industries throughout the world and yet hitherto there has been a lack of consolidated data and literature providing an international review of the subject. The "World Travel and Tourism Review" aims to remedy this deficiency by providing information and resources for academics, policy makers and practitioners, in the form of a blend of facts, descriptive analyses and predictions.;The book presents statistical data series, forecasts, trend analyses and support information on tourism in both the developed and developing world. Specific policy issues such as airline deregulation, technology transfer, trade barriers and human resources are also reviewed in sections prepared by the editors or commissioned from additional contributors. The project is linked with centres at The George Washington University and the University of Calgary, which are formally affiliated with the World Tourism Organization, and includes an international editorial advisory board. This book will be the first in an annual series which will in each volume continue to review data and issues focusing on the economic, social and environmental impacts of tourism, geo-political concerns and industry-related demand and supply. A section of each volume will concentrate on a particular theme, which in volume 1 is global tourism policy issues for the nineties. The work should be a useful reference volume for academics, policy makers and those working within the tourism industry.
