Zur Relevanz der Fragestellung Wahlen sind das zentrales Instrument in Demokratien mit welchem die Bürgerinnen und Bürger über die Zusammensetzung ihres Parlamentes und damit über ihre Repräsentanten entscheiden. Doch damit sich die Wählerinnen und Wähler entscheiden können welcher politischen Partei ihre Stimme erhält ist es Notwendig, dass die jeweiligen Parteien ihr Programm vor der Wahl den Bürgerinnen über Bürgern darlegen. Dies geschieht in den modernen Massendemokratien, in welchen Millionen von Menschen in großflächigen Staaten leben nur noch selten über den direkten Kontakt zwischen den zur Wahl stehenden und den Bürgerinnen und Bürgern. Daher ist es notwendig geworden über die modernen Medien, wie beispielsweise dem Fernsehen, den Printmedien oder dem Internet, mit dem Wählerinnen und Wählern zu kommunizieren. Denn es kann angenommen werden, dass der richtigen Kommunikation eine Schlüsselrolle in Wahlkämpfen zuteil kommt. In Anbetracht dieser Schlüsselrolle der Medien ist es nötig zu erfahren, welche Auswirkungen die Mediendemokratie auf die Wahlkampfkommunikation der politischen Parteien hat. Doch bevor dies geschehen kann wird es notwendig sein den Begriff der Mediendemokratie genau-er zu definieren (Kapitel 2). Da ich diesem Unterstelle direkte Auswirkungen für die Wahlkampfkommunikation zu haben. Im weiteren Verlauf werden die grundlegendsten Veränderungen und Wahlkampfstrategien aufgeführt (Kapitel 3), welche zu einem besseren Verständnis der Art und Weise dienen wie die verschiedenen Kommunikationskanäle im Wahlkampf genutzt werden (Kapitel 4).
