Bookseller Notes

Some of the finest poetry to come out of the Second World War, H.D. combines a documentary eye with a broad historical and mythic perspective. These were the copies of Margaret Crosland, a translator and biographer - principally of French authors, including Cocteau and Colette (both for Peter Owen). The first volume bears a gift inscription to her on the half-title: 'from Charles, 17.6.44'. Laid in to the last volume is a sheet, signed 'L', dated October 1945, with notes regarding the poetry of Cecil Day Lewis.

Description

1946, pp. 48; 42; 50, crown 8vo, original stiff card wrappers (buff or blue), very lightly dustosiled overall, the third volume with Margaret Crosland's ownership mark (a 'C') to front (see below), this also to half-title of second volume, a very good set
