Bookseller Notes
Some of the finest poetry to come out of the Second World War, H.D. combines a documentary eye with a broad historical and mythic perspective. These were the copies of Margaret Crosland, a translator and biographer - principally of French authors, including Cocteau and Colette (both for Peter Owen). The first volume bears a gift inscription to her on the half-title: 'from Charles, 17.6.44'. Laid in to the last volume is a sheet, signed 'L', dated October 1945, with notes regarding the poetry of Cecil Day Lewis.
