Publisher's Synopsis
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is the story of a few months in the life of this boy who lives in a small city in the southwestern United States on the banks of the Mississippi River. Raised by his Aunt Polly, who loves him dearly but subjects him to a discipline that makes him absurd and unpleasant, Tom sees the world in a very different way from the adults he has to live with. Precisely because there is that distancing, he entertains us with his funny and noble reactions. More rugged and rebellious against this universe of the elderly is his friend Huckleberry Finn, Tom's ideal companion who is envied by other children who contemplate in their life a way of existence that they would like to lead. Together they will live humorous and dramatic adventures from which they will be able to emerge more gracefully than any adult could have done.
