James Seeker is a bullied fourteen year-old boy, uncool and somewhat invisible. Yet, upon completion of his first year of high school, James becomes reluctantly involved with a group of people who call themselves The Gifted - an ancient race of men and women who strive to appear normal, unknown, and unnoticed by humanity. These people have long since secretly protected our world from an ancient evil that knew the beginnings of our earth and seek to bring about its end. Since the fall of the Gifted, during what we consider the dawn of creation, their powers have become increasingly diluted due to a curse set upon them by Apollyon, an evil self-proclaimed prince. But the Gifted recognize a ray of hope in James, who suddenly seems to display the aptitudes of the Gifted's original power.
