Publisher's Synopsis

The White Review No. 26 presents an extract from Juliana Delgado Lopera's multilingual novel Fiebre Tropical. Written in Spanglish, it follows a Columbian teenager's coming of age in America. Other fiction includes 'At the Heart of Things' by Vanessa Onwuemezi, the winner of The White Review Short Story Prize 2019, hailed by Chris Power as a work that 'makes its own rules and demands interpretation'. Essays include Khairani Barokka on women's pain, disability, and Paul Gauguin's painting Annah La Javanaise, and poet and psychoanalyst Nuar Alsadir on Anna Karenina and true selves. Saidiya Hartman is interviewed by Victoria Adukwei Bulley and Sophie Collins interviews Tessa Hadley. Poet Sandeep Parmar leads a roundtable 'On Criticism' with participants including Parul Sehgal. The cover image is specially designed by Israeli-American artist Elad Lassry, who is also interviewed in the issue.
